In short: At "Leaving a driveway or a field track" the examiner mainly wants to see: Drive out very slowly, at walking pace; Stop before the pavement and cycle path if someone comes; Look both ways, also at the pavement and the cycle path; Let pedestrians, cyclists and the flowing traffic go first, endanger nobody. A severe mistake that can end the test: pull out briskly, only one car is coming on the road.
You are in a driveway. Between you and the road are a pavement and a cycle path, a lowered kerb, a hedge on the right. A pedestrian walks on the pavement, a cyclist comes along the cycle path, a car drives on the road.
The examiner says„Fahren Sie bitte aus der Einfahrt und biegen Sie rechts auf die Straße ab.“
"Please leave the driveway and turn right onto the road."

What the examiner records in the protocol

- If the view is blocked, edge forward carefully or have someone guide me
- Stop before the pavement and cycle path if someone comes
- Drive out very slowly, at walking pace
- Let pedestrians, cyclists and the flowing traffic go first, endanger nobody severe mistake
- Indicate right in good time

A strong answer
I indicate right in good time and drive out at walking pace. Pedestrians, cyclists and the flowing traffic have priority, and I must endanger nobody. I stop before the pavement if someone comes there, and I look left and right, also at the pavement and cycle path. If the hedge blocks my view, I edge forward carefully or have someone guide me. Before the carriageway I stop again if needed and only pull out when everyone has passed and nobody is endangered.
What the law says
§ 10 sentences 1 and 2 StVO: whoever wants to drive out of a property, a pedestrian zone (signs 242.1 and 242.2) or a traffic-calmed area (signs 325.1 and 325.2) onto the road, or from other parts of the road or over a lowered kerb onto the carriageway, or pull away from the kerb, must behave so that any danger to other road users is ruled out; if necessary, they must have someone guide them. The intention to pull out or pull away must be announced in good time and clearly, using the indicators. Field or forest track: § 8 (1) sentence 2 no. 2 StVO, right before left does not apply to vehicles coming from a field or forest track onto another road. You must give way under § 8 (2) StVO.
